Please Excuse Us!

Office Live, where Musky105 has been parked since its inception, is closing. We are being forced to move to Office 365 or another provider before the end of April. We have been given instructions that I, not being a “techy”, am not having a good time with! There are many hoops to jump thru and way too much crap that really isn’t needed, however to stay on line I will try to do as they ask.

That’s what this is about. Sometimes, even though I do what they say, Musky105 ends up not being where it’s supposed to be. For this I am sorry and ask that you have patience. Hopefully when May rolls around, we’ll still be here, or somewhere close!

Thank you for understanding!

Bob

76 Chevy

76chevy

This is a Tuff Shad crank bait that we call “76 Chevy”. There is a reason for this name, so if you have an interest, read on!

I did some work on the house of a good friend and fellow musky fisherman. When I was finished he asked me what he owed. I had noticed a pick up sitting in the high grass beside the garage so I told him $75.00 or we can deal on the pick up. He told me that for $75.00 I just got myself a badly rusted 1976 Chevy Silverado. 350 engine with the biggest 2 barrel carb I’ve ever seen, dual side pipes that, as a favorite singing group sang, purred like a kitten.

Drove her home, changed the oil, put new tires and rims on her, got some fiberglass and a gallon of bondo and went to work on the body. Long story short, three months later she was ready to paint.

I couldn’t decide what color to paint her but Dorothy suggested using the k.i.s.s. formula, so she ended up solid black with a single gold pinstripe down each side. I had my first, and only, muscle truck. Simplistically beautiful and very functional, she did the job!

This lure didn’t look good with pinstripes so I took them off, but it sure does the job, that’s why the “76 Chevy”.

Tuff Shad Works for Me

Ed (my youngest son) and I had four days in October when we thought we could hide from the “boss”* and get in some musky fishing.  After several seconds of debate and soul searching we jumped into the truck and headed for the camper just to see if there was still water in the lake.

Before I disappoint anyone I should tell you that there are no big fish pictures or stories about the one that got away. We only saw one musky on this trip and didn’t catch any. In all fairness we also did not hear of or see anyone else catch a fish, so it was an ordinary four day musky trip for Ed!

This trip was special for me because it was the first time I ever used just one lure. Don’t misunderstand, we had a boat load of tackle including several boxes of lures (Ed threw most of them) but I only used a Silver Flash Tuff Shad. I trolled, cast, jerked, and twitched this lure from day light till dark or after for four days. This is one of the new plastic Tuff Shads and I just wanted to see how they would perform. J.R. (my oldest son) has a wooden Tuff Shad that looks like a chain saw was used on it and it still runs like a new lure, so I wanted to see if I could punish this one into quitting.

Tuff Shad is a proven fish producer. There can be no doubt these lures catch fish, many others have proved that Tuff Shad catch fish, in my own opinion they are the best musky crank bait ever made! Catching fish was never the question, I just wanted to see how the lure would hold up.

During these four days this lure was trolled across rocks and rip rap, cast into and around stumps, logs, and fallen trees, thrown into and thru weeds and about any other junk we could find. It was hung up on (yes we used lure knockers, both pole style and chains) and bounced off rocks, snagged on what seemed like every piece of wood in the lake and pulled thru every weed bed.

The lure worked perfectly right out of the box and continued to work perfectly the whole four days. It didn’t matter how bad I beat it, it just kept working! I raised the only musky we saw on the Tuff Shad casting deep while Ed worked the back of a bay. After raising that fish Ed wanted my lure but he had to use another Tuff Shad that, incidentally, also performed perfectly. Four days of tough fishing and not a scratch on it. Lip had a few rock marks on it but otherwise, perfect!

Guess what? That’s exactly what we expected and have come to expect from the Tuff Shad. That’s why the “boss”* didn’t think this experiment was needed. If I was to grade the Tuff Shad on a scale of 1 to 10 it would get an 11, but maybe I’m biased. Let me know what you think. As long as it’s on topic and stays on topic without a bunch of links, I’ll publish it.

Thanks for reading!
