Hand Crafted Lures
Hand crafted lures are completely unique! Each lure is probably as unique as the person who crafted it. If you have purchased or, better yet, made yourself a wooden or home poured plastic lure, you have a one of a kind item. Buying some ones pattern and custom painting it qualifies too! Each lure has a personality all its own. From choosing the wood to adding the final hook, each step the crafter takes may affect the way a lure runs.
The whole unique thing begins when picking the type of wood to use to craft a lure. Cedar, poplar, and balsa are some of the woods used and all make fine lures. All woods have a different density and grain which makes a difference in the woods buoyancy. If the crafter wants the lure to float high in the water he or she will use a wood that is lighter. If neutral buoyancy or even sinking is desired, then a heavier wood will be used.
Each step taken on the way to a finished product is a variable. As the crafter passes thru each individual step great pains are taken to duplicate what was done the last time, but it very seldom works that way. You may sand more on one side or paint heavier on the other side, but something will be different and you will create a lure that looks the same but is completely unique onto its self.
